Kelly Rowland’s Sheer Dress at the Vanity Fair Oscars Party
Kelly Rowland gave the sheer trend new momentum in an all-black see-through gown at Vanity Fair’s Oscars afterparty. With the help of Kollin Carter, whose styling portfolio also boasts Cardi B and Ciara as clients, the singer made a splendid appearance on the red carpet on Sunday, March 27 draped in a floor-sweeping mermaid gown, textured with piping running through the bodice and skirt.
The black latex and tulle couture design is courtesy of Beirut-based fashion house Jean-Louis Sabaji, and was complete with matching cape sleeves handcrafted in 3D tubes. They flowed down into a train that framed either side of Rowland’s dress, adding great elan to each of her poses. Underneath the revealing silhouette, the “Destiny’s Child” artist layered a sheer bodysuit with a square neckline and thin spaghetti straps. Stylist Carter fittingly described her as a “Black Barbie!” on Instagram, adding that the ensemble was tailored by fashion designer Nathan David Adams to achieve the desired outcome.
Lori Harvey and Normani also received the sheer memo, donning a netted gown and a Jean-Paul Gaulthier couture design, respectively. Anya Taylor-Joy also embraced the trend, posing in a see-through Dior gown alongside boyfriend Malcolm McRae.
Other spring trends that took the main stage on Sunday evening include the biker aesthetic, as seen in Timothée Chalamet’s Alexander McQueen leather uniform; the cutouts craze interpreted by Willow Smith’s jeweled crop top and Janelle Monáe’s Christian Siriano gown; reworked denim by way of Hunter Schafer’s floor-length Rick Owens dress; and power suiting with Zendaya’s tailored Sportmax ensemble.
The Vanity Fair Oscars afterparty was a dressy affair, with celebrities and their stylists going all out to make a bid for the best dressed nomination. Ahead, review Rowland’s stunning look from different angles.
