Beyond repair?

Beyond repair?

To start with of all, wow! Exactly where has summer gone? How can it maybe be September previously???

This is only likely to be a shorter blog, but I just needed to share a minimal fix work that I have been doing work on nowadays. The consumer in the beginning despatched me an electronic mail a few weeks in the past, as she’d been told by a high street jeweller that her sentimental gold gown ring, wasn’t able to be resized. Que that minor evil little bit in my mind that just desires to verify them wrong and demonstrate that it IS probable, and voila! 1 resized garnet and pearl gown ring. Sure, it IS a sensitive ring, so she’s not going to be in a position to dress in it just about every working day, but at the very least it now CAN be worn, fairly than remaining destined to sit in a box forever!

The ring in question - so beautiful!

The ring in concern – so beautiful!

It’s 9ct gold, established with garnets and pearls and is extremely delicate, but absolutely not over and above restore. It is a “dress ring” and will in no way have been meant to be worn all of the time.

Size L1/2 and needs to be a size N

The ring shank has some sensitive engraving all around it, and simply because it’s a extremely compact ring, the hallmark took up most of the available area, so I experienced to pick in which to make the cut incredibly meticulously.

Adding the new gold

Including the new gold

It’s all many thanks to my Dado laser welder in this article. It meant that I could include in a new part of gold and “weld” it in put devoid of risking heating (and ruining!) the pearls.

Cleaning up

Cleansing up

As soon as the new piece of gold was welded, it was just a case of extremely carefully cleansing up the joins.

Not forgetting the inside.

Not forgetting the within.

The newer gold alloy was a a little different colour, but it’ll all blend in with a polish.

Ready to wear!

Completely ready to don!

Indeed, you can see the sign up for if you look intently, but at times it is not all about wholly hiding the new component. This ring was about preservation and creating it wearable once more.

Polished and ready for many more years!

Polished and prepared for several a lot more decades!

A “very” thorough polish so as not to problems those delicate pearls, or to remove to considerably of the character. In my opinion, it’s correct for an antique to appear as these!
