Youth Commission recalls ‘hit’ fashion show | News
The Galt Youth Commission recapped a successful fashion show its April 4 regular meeting and heard updates on its ongoing projects, such as Eggstravaganza and recruitment of new members.
Tracie Cross, director of the Transition Partnership Program for the Galt Joint Union High School District (GJUHSD), praised the commission’s fashion show at the district’s college and career fair. The demonstration showed students how to dress professionally for job interviews.
“Your fashion show was a hit,” Cross said. She noted that the commissioners and members of the Galt Sunrise Rotary Interact Club overcame some initial shakiness, and the fashion show “came together like magic and I was so proud of everybody.”
Cross thanked the commissioners for their hard work and creativity in organizing the show. She noted that KCRA anchor and Galt native Leticia Ordaz is interested in joining next year’s fashion show.
Concluding her remarks, Cross made a donation of $100 to the commission.
Commission Chair Alexa Murillo Cuevas thanked Cross for her help in setting up the show and for the gift.
The commissioners took stock of the preparations for Eggstravaganza and Kite Day on April 9. The commission plans to hold a raffle for several gift baskets, many assembled by the commissioners themselves, along with others from the adult mentors and local businesses.
Those at the meeting described at least a dozen baskets, some themed after movie night or spa day. Other baskets were coming from River Rock Brewery and Cal-Waste Recovery Systems.
Raffle tickets will sell for $1 each, or 25 tickets for $20.
The Youth Commission is spreading the word about recruitment for its coming term, which begins in May.
Adult Mentor Paige Lampson encouraged the commissioners to personally reach out to classmates they think would benefit from serving.
“We’re looking for someone that you think is fabulous but didn’t get into leadership or didn’t get into whatever,” Lampson said.
Any current eighth grade through 11th grade student within the GJUHSD boundaries is eligible to apply. Youth Commission applications are due by April 21 at 5:30 p.m. For details, visit (case sensitive).
